Make an eMe. Put it in your main domain, rather than a subdomain.
Address at least:
- Your people skills
- Your job skills
- You as a person
Make a page for each one, as well as a home page. Create other pages as needed.
Add other pages with evidence, and link them appropriately. For example, create a page about your work as a residence hall RA, and link it to people skills.
If you don’t have evidence, add “More to come,” with links to a page listing some things you might do. If you don’t know what evidence employers would like, google it.
Include a contact form. Install CAPTCHA, but you don’t have to turn it on, if you don’t want to. You can turn it on later, if you start getting spam through the form.
Use a modern theme, like Bootstrap. It’s easier to make a site look good if you use a light background, rather than a dark background.
If you include a logo in the header, make sure it’s small enough not to distort the menu, adding ugly space below the links.
Include images. Don’t make them more than 500 pixels high or wide. Most should be smaller, 200 (ish) pixels. Crop images to cut out empty background, to focus the viewer on what you want them to see. Try floating images left and right, to see what they look like.
Try your site on a phone. See if the images still look OK. If they’re too big for the screen, there’s a tip on how to make them scale.
Add a footer to each page, with the message, “Created by
Spelling and grammar count!
Submit the URL of your eMe.
